The blue ocean with the sun shining, the orange-tinged ocean at dusk, the quiet and gentle sound of the waves.... Just looking at the ocean without doing anything else is enough to calm your mind, isn't it? You want to forget your hectic daily life and be healed! Here are five healing inns in Tsuruga City, Mihama Town, and Wakasa Town facing the beautiful Wakasa Bay that are perfect for such a trip. Be sure to enjoy the food that only seaside inns can offer.
Chobei (Tsuruga City)
Tsuruga Sazanami Resort Chobei is a wooden inn located on the sandy beach of Nishiura Beach in Tsuruga City. The Nago Beach spreads out before your eyes, and its proximity is such that it is no exaggeration to say that "the sea is your garden. As the name "Sazanami Resort" suggests, you will be healed by the quiet sound of the waves as they reach the inside of the inn.
In January 2024, a new concept room, "Rin-no-Ma", will be born. It will have its own entrance directly onto the beach in front of the hotel.
Guests staying in the "Rin-no-Ma" rooms can use Brompton bicycles, which are popular overseas, as much as they like. The bicycles can also be entered and exited through the room's private entrance, so you can easily enjoy touring the peninsula and the city.
The name "Wan-no-Ma" comes from "a circle of marine, a circle of friends, and a circle of bicycles. As the concept suggests, the bright space is based on a white color scheme and is furnished in an adult marine style. Whether you are active or just relaxing indoors, you will feel the ocean and your mind will be refreshed.
In addition, the "Wan-no-Ma" has a Jacuzzi bath that provides a luxurious resort atmosphere. It is an exceptional time to take a relaxing bath while enjoying the view of Tsuruga Bay stretching out before you.
There are a total of 8 guest rooms at Chobei. In addition to the Wan-no-Ma and three other concept rooms, Japanese-style rooms and Japanese-Western-style rooms are available.

The meals are prepared using a variety of local ingredients, including fresh seafood landed in Tsuruga Bay, vegetables grown in the Meiko area, and Koshihikari rice.
The charcoal-grilled kaiseki course allows diners to grill fresh ingredients over charcoal to their own liking. The original fermented sauce is a recipe of the proprietress, who is a "brewer's assistant (fermented food specialist).

Kihei Jingu Shrine / Tsuruga City, Tsuruga City, Japan
Kibi Jingu, with a history of 1,300 years counting from its foundation, is the oldest shrine in Echizen Province. It enshrines seven deities and is known as a power spot.
KATSUMIYA (Mihama Town)
Katsumiya," located in an inlet of Wakasa Bay, was originally a fisherman's guest house popular among those seeking delicious fish. It was renovated and reopened in April 2024, hoping that guests will enjoy an extraordinary experience while relaxing and looking out at the sea. The entrance with a calm atmosphere based on black tones is just like an "adult's hideaway inn.
In order to provide more attentive hospitality, the number of guest rooms has been reduced to eight to create a more spacious atmosphere. The chic interior, with gray wallpaper and dark brown floors, is perfect for a "stay-at-home" experience.
From the windows of the guest rooms facing Wakasa Bay, you can see a quiet cove and boats anchored in the fishing port. The nostalgic and nostalgic scenery will calm your mind.
All beds are made by Simmons. The beds are well received by guests who have actually stayed at the hotel, who say, "I have a hard time falling asleep at home, but here I was able to get a good night's sleep! I can't sleep well at home, but I can sleep well here!
The owner of Katsu-miya is a fisherman, and the proprietress's family is a fish wholesaler. The restaurant boasts dishes that incorporate fresh "Wakasa's delicious foods" from season to season, such as Spanish mackerel, sea bream, flatfish, and horse mackerel from spring to summer, and crab, blowfish, and yellowtail from fall to winter. You can take your time to enjoy each dish, which is both vivid to the eye and refined.
The rice is "Akisakari" from Mihama Town. We are also particular about the produce from the countryside and mountains, such as fresh eggs from a farm in Wakasa Town and pesticide-free vegetables from Tsuruga City.
The lounge space on the first floor, where breakfast and welcome drinks are served, is another great spot to view the ocean; the cafe is open from 11:00 to 15:00, serving original blend coffee, special drinks, homemade cakes, and daily lunch specials available only on weekdays.
Spend a relaxing time in a room with a view of the sea, and your daily fatigue will be blown away. Katsumiya" is recommended for adults seeking a relaxing stay.

Hotel Wansai (Mihama Town)
The hotel has an excellent location surrounded by the sea, lakes, and mountains, with Wakasa Bay on the Sea of Japan, the Ramsar Convention-listed Mikata Goko (Five Lakes of Mikata), and the lush green Iikiriyama and Jitsuyama mountains.
In the baths, you can enjoy Mihama Onsen, also known as "hot water for beautiful skin" and "hot water for beautiful people. Both men's and women's large baths have ocean views. There is also a special room with an attached observation bath with Jacuzzi.
There are four types of rooms: Japanese-style rooms, Western-style rooms, Japanese-Western-style rooms, and special rooms. All rooms face the sea, but we recommend the twin-use Western-style rooms. In a Western-style modern space that evokes a sense of nostalgia, you can immerse yourself in a relaxing resort atmosphere while enjoying the view of Wakasa Bay.
Dishes using seasonal seafood are also well-received. You can enjoy fresh seasonal flavors called "Wakasa mono," which can only be found in this area. Courses featuring crab and fugu (blowfish) together and Wakasa beef are also popular.

Mikatagoko Rainbow Line Summit Park / Mikatagoko Rainbow Line, a recommended spot in \Mihama Town.
Mikatagoko Rainbow Line Mountaintop Park is truly a place where you can enjoy the beauty of the Mikatagoko Lakes with "God's Eye". Visitors can enjoy gourmet food and footbaths while being healed by Mother Nature.
Namihanarou (Wakasa Town)
Limited to only 6 groups per day, and offering a relaxing stay in a private space, "Namihanarou" is an inn in a small fishing village, founded by a fisherman in 1950, and renovated in November 2017. The inn insists on utilizing nature by using plenty of wood and plaster walls instead of cloth.
All rooms have terraces and offer a spectacular view of the Rias coast. On a clear day, you can even see the Tango Peninsula of Kyoto.
There are two types of guest rooms: twin Western-style rooms with beds that offer the warmth of wood, and modern Japanese-style rooms with a fusion of tatami mats and wooden flooring. The simple space is accented with vintage lighting that the owner personally searched for.
The second terrace in the corner Japanese-style room has no partitions, giving it a very open feeling. You will feel as if you are floating on the sea.
The sea seen from the staircase landing looks like a piece of art cut out of a picture frame. Everywhere is a picture-perfect space.
Dinner is served in the restaurant space, with kaiseki cuisine prepared by the owner, who trained in Osaka and Kyoto. Using his own sashimi nets and seafood directly from the local market, he serves freshly prepared dishes. Dining while watching the sun set over Wakasa Bay is truly a moment of bliss.
In fall and winter, courses using Echizen crab and farmed Wakasa fugu are very popular. In early spring, natural fugu is available, and charcoal-grilled kaiseki with seasonal shellfish is also available.
Crab shabu is served dipped in a broth with crab innards.
